Define the complaint before changing the machine. State whether the observation is wale angle, side-seam movement, panel skew or pattern rotation, and identify the condition: on-machine, relaxed, finished or laundered. ISO spirality standards provide specified methods for fabrics or garments after laundering; select the contract method and edition with the customer rather than mixing results from different preparation and calculation routes.

Record yarn material, count, twist direction and level where supplied, ply or filament form, lot and package map. Add machine identity, diameter, gauge, rotational direction, feeders, stitch basis, take-down condition and roll marks. Finishing records need relaxation, wet processing, heat and width-control conditions. No single layer should be declared causal until matched samples show how the angle develops.

Field 01 - freeze the spirality definition, orientation and test condition

Mark wales, courses, machine direction, technical face and roll edges on representative greige fabric. For garments, mark the intended vertical and seam positions before laundering. Use the chosen method's specimen dimensions, conditioning, laundering cycles and calculation exactly as agreed; do not compare a quick shop-floor angle with a contract result as though they were identical.

Retain photographs and values at each state. If the product is inspected after one wash and after repeated care, keep those results in separate columns. A clear baseline prevents a later improvement in one condition from masking deterioration in another.

Collect certificates or test results for the actual yarn lots, including twist direction and stated level where available. Preserve package positions and replacements across the marked roll. Compare like-for-like structures before attributing a direction or magnitude of spirality to yarn alone. Blends, plies, filament construction and finishing response may change the outcome.

When testing an alternative yarn, keep the machine route and finish controlled and knit an identified comparison interval. Do not generalize from a laboratory cone or supplier sample that did not pass through the commercial package, machine and laundering route.

Field 03 - record rotational, loop and withdrawal conditions for the exact trial

Document the offered single-jersey machine, rotation, active feeds, needle system, yarn delivery, stitch basis and take-down state using approved references. Observe fabric torque or rotation as it exits and after a controlled relaxation without reaching into moving or guarded areas. Mark stops, setting changes and roll handling.

Avoid simultaneous yarn, stitch and take-down changes. A useful trial isolates one supported variable and produces enough fabric for full-width or full-circumference inspection. The accepted setting must also maintain weight, width, appearance and yield, not merely reduce one angle.

Field 04 - carry the same identity through finishing and garment construction

Split marked fabric for the proposed relaxation, dyeing, drying, heat treatment and width-control route. Record each sample's orientation and process batch. Measure spirality and the other commercial dimensions after the specified conditioning. If cutting or garment assembly changes the observation, preserve panel direction and seam construction.

Launder finished garments with the agreed method and compare side-seam or wale movement against the prewash marks. Release only the combined yarn, knitting, finishing and construction route that passes. A machine-only correction is incomplete when the final garment still rotates outside tolerance.
